Is this Level 1 a recognised qualification?
Yes, this Level 1 Course is a Signature RQF Qualification. An official certificate is awarded, once you have passed all 3 assessments.
Where is the course held?
This Level 1 BSL Course is 100% online, on Zoom. To take part, you must have a strong WiFi signal, and use a laptop/computer/tablet. Using a phone is not encouraged, as the screen size is generally too small.
Do I need to attend all the classes?
Yes, full attendance is encouraged.
Are there any exams?
Yes, there are 3 assessments; 101, 102 and 103. The assessments are signed not written. 101 is an internal assessment and will be marked by us. 102 and 103 are external assessments – these are recorded during the course and sent to Signature (by us) for moderation.
If you do not require a formal certificate, please ket us know, as there will be a reduction of cost, due to no examination fees.
How many students will be on the course?
There are normally up to 15 students per course. We only accept students aged 16+ on our courses, due to classes being mixed ages.
What will I learn?
Our course is designed to be interactive and inclusive. Achieving this qualification means that you will be able to communicate with people in British Sign Language (BSL) on a range of themes that involve simple, everyday language use. You will gain basic skills and confidence in production and reception of BSL. For a more in depth understanding of the qualification, please read the Level 1 BSL Qualification Specification here.
