Lesson 4: Modal Verbs

In today’s video lesson, we’re going to explore modal verbs and how they are expressed in British Sign Language. Modal verbs are important because they help us talk about ability, permission, possibility, and obligation: things like “can,” “must,” and “should.” In BSL, these ideas aren’t always shown in the same way as spoken or written English, so we’ll look at the signs, facial expressions, and body language that bring these meanings to life. By the end of this lesson, you’ll feel more confident understanding and using modal verbs naturally in your BSL conversations.
